Matt Johnson
Matt Johnson, founder of Tristar Records UK, established the label in 2010 with nothing more than a £25k bank loan. Fifteen years later, Tristar has grown into a multi 7-figure music company, serving the digital rights of 250 artists. Known for its hands-on approach and family oriented culture, the label has made a significant impact in the industry. Matt’s deep roots in music began at the age of 14 when he took on the role of the Artful Dodger in London’s West End. Immersed in the pop industry since he was 16, Matt achieved over 1 billion streams as a musician. This personal success was the driving force behind founding Tristar, with a mission to help other artists make a full time living from their music.
Tristar Records is a prominent label and distribution company, managing a catalogue of around 5,000 songs. With memberships to AIM and Merlin, the company works closely with over 250 artists and smaller sub-labels, ensuring comprehensive support from recording to sync. Tristar’s extensive catalogue generates over 1 billion streams per month, reflecting its significant influence in the music industry. Despite its success, the label remains fiercely independent, with no external investors or shareholders, allowing it to prioritise the needs of its artists and maintain full creative control.
