Yorkshire Sound Women Network
YSWN’s mission is to inspire and enable more women, girls and people of minority genders to explore sound and music technology; we want to support a flourishing industry which welcomes, encourages, progresses and respects the inclusion of women into the workforce at all levels from studio floor to board room. Our work has two key areas: education / community activities and industry-facing training and advocacy. We engage our communities through face-to-face and online skills and music-making workshops, gigs, careers presentations and socials, both organised centrally by YSWN and locally through YSWN-affiliated groups, where topics include sound recording, mixing, DJing, coding, electronics, sound engineering and using music production software such as Ableton and Logic. We have recently launched WIRED Online - a series of free resources and tutorials on our website to help girls, young women and minority gender people aged 11-25 learn all about working with audio – from creating tracks to careers in the industry.
